A release method for the parasitoid Opius concolor by means of paper bags has been tested.

Each bag was filled with about 10,000 parasitized Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata Wied.) pupae close to the braconid eclosion.

At the beginning of the eclosion time the containers were taken to the release site and then opened, so that the adults could leave the bags.

Both technical and economical evaluations of the method were carried out taking into account the time required for packing the pupae, the cost of raw materials and the actual number of released parasitoids.

Considering the low cost per insect ( 0.27 lire), which could even be reduced, the problems related to the application of this method and the possibility of further improvements, we regard this technique as an advisable release method for Opius concolor.

Per il trasporto e la liberazione di Opius concolor Szepl. è stato impiegato un metodo che prevede l’impiego come contenitore di buste di carta nelle quali sono stati immessi circa 10.000 pupari dell’ospite parassitizzati e prossimi allo sfarfallamento. Queste buste sono state portate ed aperte in oliveto quando è iniziato lo sfarfallamento degli adulti che le hanno abbandonate spontaneamente.

La valutazione tecnica ed economica del metodo impiegato è stata fatta prendendo in esame i tempi necessari per il confezionamento dei parassitoidi, i costi dei materiali impiegati ed il numero di Braconidi che hanno abbandonato le buste.

Tenendo conto dei ridotti costi imputabili ad ogni insetto per il confezionamento (£ 0,27), della possibilità di abbattere ulteriormente detti costi, dei difetti insiti nell’applicazione del metodo, ma anche dei miglioramenti che si possono apportare, possiamo ritenere valida sotto vari punti di vista la tecnica impiegata.
