Capnodis
tenebrionis L. (Cl. Buprestidae) is a threat to the Prunus spp. growing
in the whole Mediterranean area. For this reason the European Union has recently
inserted the Capnodis in the list of specific pests which concern the quality
of the main fruitful species of the Prunus Spp. Since 1994 studies
on the insect biology and on the methods of control of larvae and adults
have been effected in order to find an effective control strategy compatible
with the fruit production and the environment. The task has been developed
following distinct research themes: study of the insect biology and ethology;
control techniques in the orchard and the nursery; evaluation of environmental
impact of suggested control strategies. Studies on adult populations and
observations on development of ovaries have permitted to define the egg laying
period june-august), which is useful for establishing the optimal intervention
period for soil insecticidal treatments to prevent larval infestation. Several
insecticides against adults (methyl parathion, deltamethrine, methiocarb,
azinphos methyl., fenitrothion, pyridaphenthion) and larvae (aldicarb, diazinone,
isofenphos, phoxim, carbaryl, dimetoathe, methyl parathion) have been assayed
both in the nursery and orchard. Laboratory tests have permitted to draw
useful information about their effectiveness and persistence. Studics on
relationships between natural cyanoglucosides of Prunus spp. roots
and resistence to insect attacks are in progress.
(methyl parathion, deltametrina, methiocarb, azinphos methyl, fenitrothion,
Prunus e l'insetto.
